Managing workshop clutter during early gameplay is a persistent challenge. The firewood shed serves as a crucial early-game yard installation designed to centralize timber storage, firewood chopping, and furnace fuel distribution in one convenient location.
In preview and demo versions of Graveyard Keeper 2, obtaining the firewood shed blueprint is one of the earliest construction milestones introduced to players. It becomes accessible immediately upon unlocking the Woodworking node in the Building technology tree.
Building the shed prevents loose firewood stacks from cluttering your limited personal inventory slots and keeps your primary crafting yard clean and organized as production scales up.
Material Requirements and Yard Construction
To construct the firewood shed, interact with the architectural drafting table located in the open work yard just west of your cottage. The construction recipe calls for six wooden flitches, four simple iron parts, and twelve nails.
Wooden flitches are easily produced by sawing raw logs at the sawhorse, while nails and iron parts can be forged at your anvil using smelted iron ingots or purchased directly from the town blacksmith.
Carefully choose the placement of your shed within the yard grid. Positioning it in close proximity to both your wood stockpiles and your smelting furnaces minimizes walking transit time when moving timber and loading fuel.
Stockpile Management and Smelting Efficiency
Once erected, the firewood shed features dedicated storage slots that accommodate high-capacity stacks of chopped firewood. Unlike standard storage chests, appliances will prioritize pulling fuel directly from the shed.
Make it a habit to spend the final minutes of each working day splitting leftover billets and loading the shed to capacity. Having a fully stocked fuel station ensures your furnaces and domestic stoves never run cold during critical smelting operations.
Later in your progression, the firewood shed can be upgraded with automated chutes, allowing deployed zombie lumberjacks to deposit chopped wood directly into the shed without any manual handling.
